“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the
Government shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall

be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Merry Christmas Everyone…unto us a SON is given!  We are so thankful for everything in our lives and are so blessed to be enjoying this beautiful day with our 3 young children.  As you can imagine it’s so much fun to see the excitement in their faces and joy when they see that Santa brought them presents.  This weekend and next, we will join family and celebrate with them – we are thankful to be able to share in the spirit with our families.  Again, we are so very blessed and have the Lord to thank for all of it.

I’m hoping that all of you are enjoying this day.  I’ve been lifting up some people in prayers lately that are in need this Christmas season.  They are dealing with issues that I can’t even begin to know what they are going through.  Some of them have been listed in recent posts.  I ask you to think about them again on this day.  Prayers for peace for families in need and for Karen’s husband Mark.  Prayers of hope for families who recently experienced the fire.  Prayers of joy for the donor who donated $1,000,000 to the tenants of that fire.  Prayers of faith for those struggling with their lives right now with money and lost jobs.  Prayers of love for those who are lonely this Christmas season.  Prayers for many blessings for all of you in the coming year.

My sister in law sent an e-mail recently with a friendly reminder of what we have and what we should remember to be thankful for.  It’s cute and simple, but it’s a great reminder…

I AM THANKFUL:
FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT’S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE .

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM EMPLOYED .

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM OU T IN THE SUNSHINE

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS
WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH. …

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION .

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN
CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

AND I AM THANKFUL:
FOR THE crazy people I work with
BECAUSE they make work interesting and fun!

AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL

BECAUSE ? IT MEANS
I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME.

Thanks Kathy for sharing!

Merry Christmas Everyone!  May God bless you and your families.

In Christ Alone September 3, 2008

In mid-August we attended a wedding and one of the songs that was sung – very beautifully I might add – was “In Christ Alone”.  This was the first time that I’ve heard that song and I immediately fell in love with it.  It really seems to touch my soul every time I hear it.

Anyhow, I downloaded it and I’ve listened to it several times since then.  Here are the words…

“In Christ Alone”
Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend

In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied;
For ev’ry sin on Him was laid—
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.

In the midst of hurricane season, I would like to ask that you keep the hurricane victims in your prayers.  Also, my brother and his family are in North Carolina right now vacationing.  Hurricane Hanna is expected to hit the Carolinas on Friday.  I don’t know if they will have to evacuate yet, but please keep them in your prayers as well.

My sister-in-law sent me an e-mail with this video embedded.  It’s another reminder of how quickly life on earth passes us by and how we can miss some of the wonderful simple things that mean the most.  It’s a great reminder to cherish your children, live in the now and always remember that God is there for you.

Thank you Kathy for sharing this with me.

Have a great day everyone!

Food for thought… July 15, 2008

Get it?  Food for thought – Jillibean “Soup” – the “Soup” Bowl.  Ok, so I’m grasping at straws.  I’m not feeling very funny these days.

I like this quote though…

“This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind…let it be something good.”  – Author Unknown

When you thought I wasn’t looking… May 29, 2008

This is a poem that was posted on my friend Missey’s blog – http://ourfaithfamilyfriends.blogspot.com/.  With having children, it really spoke to me and actually made me cry.  In the whole scheme of my crazy life, I’m always trying to balance family life with everything else.  This is such a good reminder to me what matters most – my family and my faith.  I just wanted to share it with you and thank Missey for sharing it with me.

When you thought I wasn’t looking

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I immediately wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a prayer,
and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing,
and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don’t.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it,
and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw how you handled your responsibilities,
even when you didn’ t feel good, and I learned that I would have
to be responsible when I grow up.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw that you cared,
and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I learned most of life’s lessons
that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I looked at you and wanted to say,
‘Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.
