The Soup Bowl

Tidbits about Jillibean Soup and the life behind the bowl…

Little Black Dress Update – Week 3 May 18, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — jyeger @ 11:24 am

OK, so I didn’t post on Friday – I should have.  I sponsored a crop Friday night and was a little too busy to post.  I think I would have weighed less on Friday. 😦    I’m maintaining right now but I’m happy to say that I have been exercising.  I even went spinning at 5:20am this morning.

A couple of things I’ve learned throughout my years of dieting…

* Don’t weigh yourself the morning after eating pasta.  I’m not sure if it’s the carbs or what, but I’m ALWAYS heavier after pasta.

* Do weigh yourself after eating a dinner of lean meat and veggies.  I usually have good results after a healthy dinner such as above.  I tend to eat my carbs earlier in the day and then eat more protein for dinner.

* I know the books say don’t weigh yourself everyday – I do.  It will help you understand what works for you.  You just have to take the good with the bad.  If you know you ate a large piece of chocolate cake at midnight then yep, you’re probably going to gain…accept it and move on.

* I can’t do low-carb diets.  I have to be able to eat some carbs.  If I deprive my body then I will end up binging.  Something like Weight Watchers works great for me.  If I fall off the horse then I know I can get right back on the next day.  With low-carb/no-carb diets…they actually change the way your body is digesting food.  If you throw in some carbs one day then you’ve messed up the process and have to start all over again.

* Exercise will do so much more for you than just help you lose weight.  I’ve been incredibly stressed lately.  Exercise has been the LAST thing on my mind, however it should be a priority.  I will be the first to tell you that it has helped my mood do a 360 in the last 2 weeks.

* Water, water, water…I have a problem with diet Pepsi.  I’m slowly getting more H2O into my routine.  It absolutely makes a difference.

* I keep cut-up veggies on hand all the time.  Yes, I must eat them with dip, but I still get my veggies in and they are very filling.  I keep them in a container in the fridge and pull them out while cooking dinner.  I get filled up with veggies and eat less for dinner.

Just my 2 cents.

Hope you all have a great week!

Mid-week Little Black Dress Update… May 12, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — jyeger @ 1:02 pm

Today, I was headed out the door to go get Leah off the bus.  I stopped to get the mail,  then Lily and I started down the sidewalk (we have to go to the end of our cul de sac to get Leah).  One of the roofers working on the neighbor’s roof yelled out “what’s up bubble butt”.   I didn’t turn back to see if he was talking to me (I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction)… but I’m pretty sure he was.  I was a little peeved for a moment but quickly got over it until we got back from the bus stop and I told Eric to go kick his a**.  Ha!

BTW…I’m finally in the “zone” and have worked out the last 3 days.  Woo Hoo!

Late Mother’s Day Wishes…

Filed under: Uncategorized — jyeger @ 12:51 pm

I’m having a hard time keeping up these last few days.  I need to send out a belated Mother’s Day wish to my Mom, Karen, Jan and Imogene.  Hopefully all of you had a great day and you were able to enjoy some “me” time.  Happy Mother’s Day wishes to all the Mom’s in my life…we all know how difficult this job is but we also know that we wouldn’t want it any other way. 😉

I was looking through some old posts from last May and came across this poem that was posted on Missey’s blog last year (still hard for me to believe I’ve had this thing up and running for a whole year now).  Anyhow, thought I would share it again.  It’s something we don’t think about in our day to day tasks…but a great reminder of the little things and how they affect our children.

When you thought I wasn’t looking

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I immediately wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a prayer,
and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing,
and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don’t.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it,
and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw how you handled your responsibilities,
even when you didn’ t feel good, and I learned that I would have
to be responsible when I grow up.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw that you cared,
and I wanted to be everything that I could be.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I learned most of life’s lessons
that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I looked at you and wanted to say,
‘Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.
Enjoy the rest of your week…

Fun Bits for the week of May 4th…

  • First off, can you believe it’s May already?  I can’t.  Leah has 16 days of school left.  She has her enrichment “graduation” on Thursday.  Wow, where did the time go?
  • I don’t have a whole lot of funnies to share this week other than this…

  • Brooke was just hangin’ out while Mom was taking a shower.  Looks like she found an old shower cap in one of our drawers.  I came out of the shower and she was just sitting there reading a book with her “hat” on. 🙂

Have a great week!

Little Black Dress week 2 May 8, 2009

Cute dress…wish I had the legs to go with it.  Update – week 2.  Not too much to say, I’ve avoided the scale this week and would be embarassed to tell you that I gained the 2 lbs back and then some.   I’m going to do this…really I am.

I was chatting last night with some friends at dinner.  Most of them run, in fact 1 of the girls just completed a half marathon and a another a marathon.  {Congrats again Tracy and Shannon!}  I’m not a runner.  I don’t like the pounding on the pavement (nor the movement in my chest) and I’m the type of person who runs so fast in the first quarter mile that I’m exhausted by 1/2 a mile. ;-(    Anyone have any good tips for getting back into a workout groove?  I’m stuck.  My neighbor and I spin together, but the 5am workouts are really difficult when I’m up until midnight or 1am.

I’ll get there…after Mother’s Day brunch…that’s when I’ll start. 😉

Have a great weekend everyone!

Fun Bits for the Week of April 27th…

  • Kami speaking in her most “manly” voice – mocking her father.  Need some video for this – both Eric and I were laughing out loud!
  • Brooke decided to color her eye orange with a marker…

  • So glad she decided to match her dress. 😉
  • Leah talking about a boy in her class being cute (as seen in the last post)…oh my!
  • I enjoyed cropping for part of the day Saturday.  Had some great laughs with Holly who shares the same life struggles as I.  😉
  • Eric took the girls to Indiana for the weekend.  This was good and bad.  Friday night I discovered our fridge was leaking and had been for several days.  The hardwood in our kitchen was starting to warp.  I went into the basement and we had water in our crawl space too.  Sooooo, I had to pull out the fridge, shut-off the valve, clean-up the nasty mess it made behind the fridge and move boxes in the basement.    Might sound easy…but it wasn’t.  Isn’t this what husbands are for. 😉  I could have asked the neighbor but my house was an absolute MESS and I was too embarassed!  UPDATE: Floor guy was just here and we need a new floor.

Have a great week!

Anne keeps teasing me…

Leah: she says I’m in love with Joey.

Mom: Well, are you in love with Joey.

Leah: No, I just like him a little bit.  I think he’s cute.

Mom: silence…..

This is a conversation with my 5.5 yr old kindergartener.
