Flea Market Finds April 30, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — jyeger @ 12:53 am

When Jen was visiting last weekend we headed to some flea markets and antique shops looking for inspiration.  I’m the kind of person that gets bored looking at table after table of treasures.  Jen, however, is really good at picking out things that she knows I will like or might use for some Jillibean designs.  I thought I would share some of our finds…

Love this thing!  I’ve been looking at old typewriters and was ecstatic when the vendor said $10 bucks for it!  I snatched it right up!  It even works!

Ahhhh, more goodies.  Who can go wrong with vintage buttons?  Lovin’ the old print blocks.  They had one booth with tons of print letters/numbers and cool print plates!   I’m going to try to use the wood tray for a picture/paper display for Summer CHA.  Well see. 😉

Check out that awesome compass on the front of that book….hmmmm, if I ever decide to do a travel line.  LOVE the broach.  It reminds me of something my Grandma would wear.

Check out these adorable chalkboard boxes.  Jen and I were surprised when we opened them and there were some goodies inside…

The date stamp on the side was from the 1930’s.  It’s just cool knowing that someone used it way back then…and there’s probably some stories to go along.

Thanks Jen!  You saw things I completely missed and you know what I like!

Lots of inspiration here…maybe something for a new paper line?  I’m sure you’ll see of this eye candy in our booth for CHA summer!

Have a great day!

Fun Bits for the Week… April 28, 2009

Fun Bits for the week of April 20th…

  • While taking a shower the other day, I had 3 little girls unwrap all of our extra soap bars (there was probably 10 or so) and pretend to wash themselves as well as draw on furniture with soap.  The ring leader….guess…yep, you got it…Brooke!
  • Brooke has decided that since she can’t have the markers – she will take the paper off of any crayon she can find and draw on any wall, table, or chair that gets in front of her!  Aaaahhhhh!
  • Leah corrected my English the other day.  Fun having a kindergartener that’s smarter than you. 😉
  • Brooke has decided she needs to go potty everytime that Kami goes (not really – I wish).  She runs to sit on the training potty everytime Kami announces that she’s going to go potty.
  • The girls and I enjoyed our local POW WOW (school PTO fundraiser) on Saturday.  I had to take Brooke home early to stay with her Dad.  She was not happy holding Mom’s hand nor would she listen to a word I said.  Kami and Leah enjoyed getting their nails painted, jumping in the bouncy houses, playing the tootsie roll raffle and eating ice cream!  I loved the “cake walk” game!  It’s my favorite!
  • My very good friend Jen visited from Iowa this past weekend.  We always have so much fun together!  Thanks chickie!  We had a “girls day/night” on Saturday.  We took the girls to the POW WOW and then went out for dinner.  On the ride home we were pumpin’ and groovin’ to “All the Single Ladies”.  Jen and I were reminiscing about the good ole days and how our “girls night out” has seroiusly changed!   Who would have thought 15 years years after our fun college days, we would have a “girls night out” that  we’d be whooping it up with my daughters and it would end at 9:00pm!
  • I finally got some Easter pics.  Well, not Easter pics but pics of the girls in their Easter dresses.  It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get the 3 of them to cooperate for a family photo so I’m sharing individual photos.

  • Poor Brooke – not too excited about taking pics on Sunday.   She’s starting the terrible 2’s and we’re seeing more crying fits.

Have a great week!

Scrapbook and Cards Today is a Canadian scrapbooking magazine that’s published 4 times a year.  I was first introduced to the publication at CHA (yes, I live under a rock).  Anyhow, the girls at SCT have been very kind to Jillibean Soup!  If you go over to the Bean Talk blog, you can enter to win a 1 year subscription to this great magazine!

Also, you can check out their spring 09′ issue here.  This is the first publication to have projects with Jillibean Soup products in it.  How exciting!  You might see a Jillibean Soup ad too (thanks Nadia)!

Have a great weekend!

Earth Day & a Giveaway! April 22, 2009

Happy Earth Day!  Chances are you’ve done something in your life to reduce, reuse or recycle.  Heck, if you’ve purchased Jillibean Soup papers then you’ve purchased some “green” products.  All of our papers are manufactured with recycled stock.  Our kraft papers are 100% recycled!  In celebration of Earth Day, I thought I would share some “green” tips and fun sites.

Martha has some eco-chic ideas for your home…

What a beautiful centerpiece made out of recyled glass.

Check out this mirror made from recycled magazines.  Target has more “green” items online.

think green Jr. Jersey T-Shirt

Check out these cool green tees from Cafe Press.

Green Options has “green” ideas for scrapbooking and paper crafting.  Check them out…you might see a post about Jillibean Soup. 😉

Go to greenhome.com to learn how to “green” your home.

Here are 10 things NOT to do on Earth Day (provided by Jasmin Malik Chua from www.treehugger.com):

1. Don’t drive like a teenager, speeding up and slowing down and weaving in and out of traffic. Such aggressive driving can lower fuel efficiency by 33 percent. Accelerate gently and stay with the traffic to save gas and money.

2. Don’t use cleansers and personal care products that contain triclosan or other antibacterial agents. Public health officials worry that antibacterials in cleansers, window cleaners, and soaps are causing us to become resistant to antibiotics. Use simple soap and hot water for cleaning, and body soaps and lotions that do not say “antibacterial” or “fights germs” on the label.

3. Don’t go shopping without a list! According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, people waste about 30 percent of their household food budgets buying groceries that eventually expire and have to be thrown out. Know what you want to buy before you hit the store aisles—you’ll buy less of what you don’t need, buy more of what you’re likely to use, and reduce the impact your shopping has on the planet. Then put your list on your refrigerator so you don’t forget what’s inside.

4. Don’t leave the lights on when you leave the room. You could save as much as $100 per year in electricity costs by turning off a 100-watt light bulb when you’re not using the light.

5. Don’t leave the computer on if you’re going to be gone longer than two hours, and don’t leave the monitor on if you’re going to be gone longer than 20 minutes. If you plug your electronics into an energy-saving power strip, you can reduce the energy they use by as much as 40 percent.

6. Don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth. Turning off the tap when you brush your teeth can save up to 8 gallons of water a day, 240 gallons a month – saving hundreds on your water bill each year.

7. Don’t buy “snack packs” that come wrapped in cardboard and plastic. Small individual packages use more energy and resources to manufacture and transfer, and are often twice as expensive as the same product sold in a larger bag or box.

8. Don’t use so much shampoo, soap, lotion, make-up, gel, and perfume. More than 25 percent of all women and one of every 100 men use at least 15 products daily, according to a survey of 2,300 men and women, exposing people to hundreds of chemicals during the course of a day. Can you reduce the number of products you use by at least three?

9. Don’t buy new. Remember the 3 R’s of eco-friendly living? They begin with “reduce” (the other two are “re-use” and “recycle”). If you need to shop, start with eBay, Freecycle.org, the neighbor’s yard sale, or the community vintage or thrift store.

10. Don’t sit at your computer all day. Get outdoors for at least an hour to remember why Mother Nature is worth protecting. Besides, if you’ve done all the other don’ts on this list, you deserve to take a break!  (This is for me!)

In honor of Earth Day, I’m giving away a $25 to spend at your favorite Etsy shop.  There’s lots of great recycled items on Etsy…some of my favs below…
