As Girly As it Gets August 31, 2008

As you can imagine we have tons of pink around this house!  My 5 yr old and 2 yr old share a room and it is painted an incredibly bright fushia color!  When I first painted it I remember this glow that came out from under the closed door.  It was bright!  You would have thought aliens lived in there or something!  Along with pink, we have everything Princess, Barbies, Dora, Polly Pocket, Strawberry Shortcake…you name it.  We also have lots of dress-up clothes.  Pretty much everyday we have some sort of dress-up party.  My 5 yr old is always wearing jewelry or sunglasses or pretties in her hair.  I grew up with 2 older brothers so I was a bit of a tomboy (I did love my Barbies though).  I’m glad that my girls have each other and that they get into the girly stuff.  Here’s a layout titled “DIVA”…this is just one glimpse at being “girly”.  I love how her underwear is sticking out of her pants – and that pose.

Materials:  Cardstock: Bazzill, DMD; Patterned Paper: Jillibean Soup; Chipboard Letters: American Crafts, Chipboard Heart: Making Memories; Bling: Me and My Big Ideas; Pen: Sharpie; Other: Marvy Uchida Scallop Punch

Journaling: “As girly as it gets.”

Thanks for looking!

Jill

A conversation with my 5 yr old after arriving home from her 2nd day of Kindergarten…

Leah: “So Mom, now that I’m in Kindergarten, I don’t have to take naps anymore, right?”

Mom: “You’re going to be very busy with enrichment a couple days a week.  I think you can rest on the other days.”

Leah: “Mom, is rest another word for nap?

Inspiration from your children…

I recently posted some cards that my 5 yr old made.  She continues to inspire me daily – not only in crafting but in many other ways as well.  Here’s a layout that was inspired by her…

Leah made a card a while back using the orange ribbon and she placed the cute frog stickers on top of it.  I loved the color combo and the use of the frogs.  I did the layout quite some time ago and I’m pretty sure I scraplifted it from somewhere.  I apologize that I can’t find the original designer.

Materials: Cardstock: Bazzill, DMD, Patterned Paper: The Paper Studio, Library Card: Boxer,  Chipboard letters: Scenic Route,  Ribbon: May Arts, Frog Stickers: Sandylion, Bling: Heidi Swapp, Button: Unknown, Other: Dymo label maker

The journaling states:

Leah,

You inspire me in more Ways

than you know.  You have

inspired me to be a better Mom,

wife, friend, Christian and person.

I’m so excited that you seem to

have my passion for crafting.

One day you created a card for

your soccer coach with this ribbon

and frog stickers on it.  I loved it

and decided to “lift” it for a

scrapbook page. Thank you for

inspiring me.

I’ve been working on some layouts lately.  Here’s a page titled “kami”.

Materials Used:

Cardstock: Bazzill, Patterned Paper: Jillibean Soup: Buttons: Creative Cafe (Creative Imaginations), Ghost Letters: Heidi Swapp, Stamp: Fontwerks, Ink: Ranger, Other: staples

Jornaling:

As you are well aware, Mommy likes to take lots of photos.  This photo was taken at Coffman Park – not too far from our house.  I dressed you up in this beautiful dress (Mommy loves Old Navy and loves to dress-up you and your sisters)and we headed to the park.  You were just about ready to start walking.  Mommy took lots of photos!  This one was taken on the inside of a slide at the playground.  I melted when I saw it.  Your face shows the true innocence of being 12 months old.  You are beautiful baby girl.

Leah started Kindergarten yesterday… August 27, 2008

Boo Hoo Hoo, Leah started Kindergarten yesterday.  I was doing fine until the whole “bus” thing.  Really.

We started our preparations the day before by painting fingernails and styling her hair.  We also read the book “The Night Before Kindergarten” before bed.  It’s a cute book that our friend Missey let us borrow.  Leah was so excited yesterday morning.  We took a few pics before we headed to school.  We live very close to the elementary school so all of us walked Leah to her first day.  It was a bit overwhelming arriving at school with all the “older” kids, but she seemed to be fine.  She sat with her class until it was time to go back to her room and then waved goodbye…

About 2.5 hours later she arrived home on the bus.  The school offers kindergarten-only buses and this will be her only opportunity to ride a bus (after K, she’ll have to walk), so we signed her up.  She’s only on the bus for about 2 minutes but she really wanted to ride the bus!  The bus stopped and I could see her little head looking out the window and waving to me.  Then she got off the bus.  I grabbed her hand and we started walking towards home.  I asked her how her day was and she gave me a big “great” and I lost it.  Tears welled up in my eyes.  She was acting like such a big girl.  What happened to my baby?

Wow, I’ve had over 400 hits today!  Yes, I know it could be one person going to 400 different pages, but I’m going to pretend like it’s not. 😉  Since it’s been so busy around here, I thought we should do our first giveaway.  I’m thinking butterflies – not exactly appropriate for fall, but what the hey.  How about a set of Jillibean Soup “Cold Raspberry” papers (before you can buy them), a Martha Stewart butterfly punch, K&Co bling, and some very cute butterfly clips from Making Memories.

I know, I know…why am I giving away other manufacturers products?  I guess because I like them!  I’m an avid scrapbooker who goes ooh and ahh over great new stuff too!

All you have to do leave a little note about one good thing that’s happened to you lately.  Random.org will pick the winner this Friday, August 29th at 9:00PM EST.

Good Luck!

Jill

Update: Heather is the winner!  Thanks everyone for your comments!

Fun Bits for the week…

Fun Bits for the week of August18th…

  • Leah, while eating her McDonaldland cookies and explaining what each one of the characters looked like, suggested that the hamburglar looks like Grandpa wearing a cowboy hat.

FYI…Grandpa is on the left 😉  In case you’re really young and you don’t know who the hamburglar is, he’s the one in the stripped outfit in the picture on the right.  I don’t really see the resemblance.  Really, I don’t make this stuff up!

  • Kami has decided to potty train herself.  She’s gone several times and really enjoys her “teets” (treats) afterwards.
  • Brooke is really steady on her feet now!

  • I was wrestling with our dog Lily (Lily has been down and out lately due to surgery on her back leg) today and Kami yelled at me saying “Stop it right now”.  Who’s that sound like?
  • Brooke (who’s 13 months old) was immitating Mom burping.
  • Kami is a little stinker…everytime she gets yelled at, she tries to turn things around and says “Hi Mommy“.
  • After eating chicken for dinner last night, Leah asked her Dad – “Dad, how does the farmer get the legs off the chicken?”
  • Leah calls the UPS man, the PUS man.
  • Leah will start Kindergarten tomorrow!
  • Did I mention that Scrapbook Art in Lewis Center will be carrying the entire line of Jillibean Soup! 🙂

Some fun cards from my 5 year old… August 24, 2008

Leah loves to sit and make cards and/or scrapbook pages with Mom.  She often inspires me.  Here are a couple of cards from Leah.

Butterflies are everywhere right now!  We had fun with our Martha Stewart butterfly punches

Ah, check out those hearts – of course we had to throw in some Jillibean Soup products!  Heart and star punches from Fiskars (sorry, gave you Target because Fiskars website did not have a product picture).

This is my favorite.  She picked out these colors on her own and I love them together!  Pink, b/w, orange – fun!  Again, we used the Fiskars star punch.

Thanks for looking.  Leah was excited to share them!
