Well the class is still going, whether I’m in attendance or not. :-O  I’ve only completed one project which is fine.  I’m still gathering lots and lots of ideas.  It has been interesting and it’s teaching me to think “outside the box”.  One of the first projects that was offered was a simple layout with the “keep it simple silly” approach.  Here are the instructions…

  • Take 3 cleansing breaths.  Stretch for 2 to 3 minutes
  • Set a kitchen timer for 30 minutes
  • Go to your stash of photos
  • Pick out two or three snapshots that capture someone engaged in PLAY
  • Stick photos onto cardstock
  • Use a one-word title
  • Add some ribbon or doo-dads
  • Share the completed page with someone you love

I love how simple this is…now only if I could sit down and do this.  No, I don’t have a page to show you – I’m going to try this this weekend and hope you will too!   This will be hard for me – but I think it will allow me some freedom in my scrapbooking and I can definitely use that!

Fresh Peas Anyone?

Living in suburbia doesn’t allow for much farming or gardening.  Hubby grew up on a farm in Indiana and I know he misses it.  His father and grandfather still farm and I’m sure he would love to jump right back in.  When we bought our house, there was a little piece of our yard dedicated for a garden (we’re talking 8X16).  Hubby was excited that we could plant some veggies.  It’s kind of been a tradition for he and Leah to plant the seeds together, water it together and pick the produce when it’s ready.  Every once in a while you can catch Leah eating fresh peas out of it.

July 29th…4 adults, 3 kids, 6 checked bags, 8 carry-on bags, 1 double-stroller, 2 flights, 5 hours of flight time, 4 hours in airports, 2 hours of driving time and a 3 hour time change from Washington.

When we were traveling home yesterday – a very long day I might add – I was thinking about different things that I could post.  Should I post how exhausting it is traveling with 3 small children and how other fliers are intolerable of fussy kids?  Should I post about Brooke who did not want to be on an airplane yesterday?  Should I post about the guy in first class who kept giving us the “eye” everytime Brooke would cry (which was too numerous to count)?  Should I post about being Thankful that my in-laws were traveling with us?  Should I post about the man who said “I hope they’re not sitting in the back” as we were getting in line to get on our last flight?  By the way, we were in the back and sat right behind that nice young fella.  Should I post about Kami and how she turns into a completely different child when she doesn’t get enough sleep?  Yes, I know I’m complaining, I do have something funny to tell…

It was about 11:00pm in Columbus (way past the girl’s bedtime) and we had hauled all our luggage out to the curb for our pick-up.  Hubby went to get the car so we were just hanging out.  My father-in-law decided to go to the restroom while we were waiting.  He left.  A minute later I decided to go as well  (remember – it’s 11:00 pm and we just returned from a day of traveling with 3 young kids.  I was completely out of it and just daydreaming – happy to be home).  I walked back through the airport doors and noticed my father-in-law walking in front of me.  I proceeded up the ramp looking at people as I passed by.  My father-in-law turned the corner, then I did.  Then he turned another corner and so did I.   I jolted when I noticed the urinals along the wall.  I was in the MEN’s restroom!!!   I froze as I saw my father-in-law stop at a urinal and start unzipping his pants.  Panic on my face!  I started shuffling my feet – he was starting to turn his head around.  I QUICKLY ducked back out of the restroom.   Oh my goodness – did he see me?  I went right next door to the WOMEN’s restroom.  When I came out, I wondered if he already went back to the curb.  I was hoping he didn’t.  I RAN back to the curb -hoping to make it before he did.  He was not there yet.  When he did come back out,  he didn’t say a word.  Phew…

Greetings from Olympia, Washington.  We spent the last week with hubby’s family and are headed home tomorrow.  It’s been a busy week with 7 kids, 5 and under all under one roof.  The girls have had a great time and will be completely bored when we get home!

I’m sure I’ll have lots of pics to share.  For now, here’s a couple…

Leah enjoying a snowcone at the local Farmer’s Market.  It was almost as big as her head.

Kami having fun at a local park.

Here’s Brooke at the park too.  This will be fun to scrapbook!

You’ll notice the girls have jackets on…it’s been a bit chilly out here and Mom didn’t pack the right clothes.  It’s been in the 50’s/60’s in the mornings and somedays hits the 70’s in the afternoon.  It’s nice, I just didn’t bring appropriate clothing. ;-(

I’ll get back in the groove of posting once we get home.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

If you’ve checked out the rest of this blog, then you’ve noticed that I have a link to the website: jillibean-soup.com.  If you’ve checked out the website than you found that the only page available is a page with a “the website is currently being built” statement on it.  My website IS currently being built by Nadia’s Studio.  I can’t praise them enough – they have been wonderful to work with!  After much deliberation, I think we finally arrived a final design for the main pages.  Our hope is to have it running in about 2 weeks!  Yeah!

Hope you like it!  Thanks for looking!

10 signs I’m getting old… July 22, 2008

I’m feeling a bit ornery today so let’s have some fun making FUN of me!

10 signs I’m getting old (or older)…

1.  I have to draw my eyebrows on.  Within the last year or so my eyebrow hair has stopped   growing in certain spots.  I now have to use an eyebrow pencil to fill it in.  I have lots of hair on my body (including VERY thick hair on my head) so never in my wildest dreams did I think my hair would not grow back.

2.  Dry Sockets with my wisdom teeth extraction.  I ended up with dry sockets when I had my wisdom teeth out.  Ugghh.  The oral surgeon suggested it was because of my “maturity”.

3.  Maam.  It seems like everyone is calling me Maam now.

4.   I can’t drink caffeinated beverages after 4:00PM.  I can’t sleep if I have caffeine in the evening.  What happened?

5.  I have crows feet.  I’ve noticed this quite a bit lately and I’m noticing it in my photos.  Most of the pics I post on here have not been doctored, other than to crop or change to b/w.  I really should be tweaking them with Photoshop – atleast the pics of ME.

6.  Leah thinks I’m 55.  Back in May, I attended “Mom’s Night” at Leah’s preschool.  The kids presented their Mom’s with a card.  Inside the card was a bunch of questions the teacher’s had asked the kids about their Mom’s.  When asked how old I was, Leah responded “55”.

7.  I can’t do gymnastics anymore.  Leah is all about learning gymnastic tricks right now.  I took gymnastics as a child (I was not super great or anything) and could do most tricks.  The other night we were practicing round-offs, back bends and handstands.  While practicing, I felt really fragile and that I should NOT be doing round-offs in our living room.  I was afraid I was going to break something.  When did this happen?  When did I start feeling this way?  I used to think I was invincible!  Plus, I was very sore the next day.

8.  My granny panties.  Well, they’re not actually granny panties – they are left over maternity panties which seems about the same.  I still wear them.  I have no intentions of getting rid of them either.  They are plain white, black and nude.  Ooohhh, so sexy!

9.  My memory is about gone.  Unless I write stuff down, I can’t remember it.

10.  And the obvious…my body has shifted.  My body weight has shifted in various areas and it will never return to it’s original shape.  Unless modern medicine intervenes, I’m stuck with it.

sex and the city

I had such a nice weekend hanging out with girlfriends.  On Saturday, I attended a crop with my friend Karen.  We had such a nice time chatting.  Hopefully you will see more of Karen hanging around here.  She’s a bit of a stamping expert (not to mention a great crafter) and I’ve asked her to post some tutorials on this blog.  She’s also going to do some classes for Jillibean Soup.  More to come from her!  Thank you Karen for all your inspiring words!!

On Sunday evening, I had the opportunity to go to dinner and a movie (Sex and the City) with 5 other young ladies.  Thank you girls for a great evening!  We are all soooo busy that we have difficulty finding a time when all of us can get together.  When we do get together, it’s just a great time.  The movie was good too!  I’m not a huge SATC fan (although I could have been) but I really enjoyed it and it makes you want to reach out to your friends.  So send a hug to your girlfriends today!

Hug, Hug 🙂
